NUCLEAR FUSION TECHNOLOGY

Since 1996 CREATE operaties in the framework of the Association EURATOM-ENEA, through an agreement with ENEA-FUS, Frascati

Since 1996 CREATE operates in the framework of the Association EURATOM-ENEA, through an agreement with ENEA-FUS, Frascati.

The main objectives of the CREATE activity in the Association are:

  • Develop and improve tools and models for the interpretation of fusion experiments and for the design of new experimental devices
  • Develop innovative technologies of interest for fusion programmes
  • Give direct support to EFDA programmes, both in phisics and technology
  • Train young scientists and engineers in the field of nuclear fusion

Present activities are addressed to the support and the  participation to EFDA programs, with the aim of playing a significant role in ITER relevant activities, in JET scientific exploitation and JET enhancements, in fields where the expertise of the CREATE group is well recognized. In particular the following topics are presently object of  analysis and studies:

·       Plasma control: i) real time control of the current, position, shape of the plasma in the vacuum chamber during the discharge; ii) real time control of the profile parameters of the plasma; iii) real time reconstruction of the main plasma parameters from magnetic and non magnetic measurements; iv) plasma modeling in the presence of 3D conducting structures

·       Diagnostics: i) engineering design, construction and commissioning of magnetic diagnostics systems; ii) fault analysis of magnetic sensors; iii) categorization and prediction of plasma disruptions;

·       Eddy currents: i) computation of eddy current distribution in complex 3-D metallic structures; analysis and interpretation of non destructive testing on metallic structure via electromagnetic methods;

·       Magnet Technology: i) current distribution in superconducting conductors; ii) modeling of superconducting materials.
